Innovating Medical Technologies in Interdisciplinary Teams

The Biodesign Finland project in 2017 runs April through December with three talented fellows: Sami Elamo, Kalle Kotilahti, and Jari Rantala (see Sami is a medical doctor with a specialist degree in orthopedics and traumatology. He also holds a M.Sc. degree in industrial engineering. Kalle is an engineer with a doctorate in engineering physics and has a strong research background. Jari is an innovation and technology transfer professional, who majored in physics and minored in biomedical engineering. The interdisciplinary expertise in the team provides a solid basis for their project, in which the aim is to identify an unmet medical need and to develop a solution for it for clinical use and commercialization. In May, the fellows will conduct their immersion at the Medical Imaging Center in Helsinki University Hospital, where they will focus on emergency radiology.
